Understanding Homelessness in Eau Claire
As we navigate our busy lives in the neighborhoods of Western Wisconsin, homelessness can often feel like a distant issue, something that happens in far-off places or bigger cities. However, the reality is that homelessness touches lives closer to home than we might realize.
Homelessness in Eau Claire and the surrounding Chippewa Valley affects a significant number of individuals and families. According to recent statistics, an estimated 733 individuals1 experience homelessness annually in Eau Claire and nearby countiesb. This includes approximately 271 homeless families with children2. These numbers represent more than just statistics; they tell the stories of our neighbors who are in desperate need of hope and assistance.
Statewide Statistics on Homelessness in Wisconsin
Across Wisconsin, recent reports indicate that over 17,253 people1 experience homelessness throughout the year. In Western Wisconsina, homelessness has increased by 18% from 2020-2021, reaching a rough total of 3,132 individuals1 experiencing homelessness throughout the year.
At Hope Gospel Mission, we see firsthand the struggles and challenges that lead individuals and families into homelessness in Eau Claire and work tirelessly to be a part of the solution. Our care goes beyond providing basic necessities like warmth, meals, and safe shelter. We offer homeless and addiction recovery programs, to help men, women, and women with children, address the root causes of their situation.
