Mark* is one of our newer residents, but by talking to him you’d think he’s been here a while. That’s because even though he’s just been here a few weeks, he’s found joy and peace that he never knew before. He even says he has more energy than he ever remembers having before in his life!
Mark moved around a lot as a kid. He ended up in a state out West and during his freshman year he got involved in meth. He dropped out of school two years later. His family moved back to western Wisconsin shortly after to get away from meth, but soon Mark picked up the addiction with some locals. He also started drinking more.
Mark has spent three of the last six years in jail due to charges related to his addictions and burglary. He recently realized that he had a drug and alcohol addiction. He also had a son recently. This helped him determine to “shape up” and get out of his situation. He and his fiancée looked for ways to get help and found Hope Gospel Mission online. They liked what they found and inquired about our services. In a short time Mark entered our Renewed Hope Program.
Meth destroys a person’s teeth. Mark had five removed recently and will get another seven removed soon. He’ll have dentures eventually.
