Craig Pedersen and several other key staff just got back from the 100th annual convention of the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions in Arizona. We asked him about the experience and this is what he said.
Traveling to the 100th annual convention of the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions was a blessing. The temperature was over 110 degrees outside some days so it was appropriate the convention theme was “Just Warming Up." With over 1,000 attendees from the roughly 300 Missions that make up the AGRM there were plenty of great opportunities to network and share new and proven ideas. Jan Brewer, the governor of Arizona, opened our session and throughout the week there were video congratulations played on our 100 year anniversary from such celebrities as Dr. Phil. We were also honored to have conference speakers such as Anne Graham Lotz and Dr. Richard Blackaby.
I was blessed to be able to teach a break out session to 40 or so executive directors and mission business leaders from all over the country. Hope Gospel Mission is one of the few missions that is mostly supported by our Social Enterprises and completely free of any government funding. I shared with our sister missions many of the creative ways we find dollars to support the Ministry of HGM including; rescuing over one million pounds of landfill-bound material per year, purchasing and selling liquidation and surplus new merchandise, and green energy and other grant funding.
Other session I attended included missions running businesses such as; a chocolate candy factory, beef cattle farm, hydroponic vegetable farming, pallet factories, hotels, restaurants with full accredited hospitality training schools and many others. Can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store for us next here in Eau Claire!
